Northridge, CA - The newly founded CSUN Secular Student Alliance will have their first general meeting to close out the semester. After having recently received affiliation with CSUN and the associate students, the CSUN SSA will hold a general meeting to welcome a new alliance between the national Secular Student Alliance and CSUN.
"We're really looking to provide an open and academic setting to come and discuss many of the topics that people deem controversial such as atheism and secularism in general," said Matthew Jones, Chair of the CSUN Secular Student Alliance ,"There has been a void on campus in this department for some time and we are hoping to fill it."
Their affiliation with the national Secular Student Alliance brings in a new capacity for the organization of individuals who either identify as secular or would like to talk about secularism. They emphasize that those who identify as religious are encouraged and welcomed to come and discuss, in an academic environment, the ideals they espouse. "Our journey to a better understanding of both ourselves and the universe relies on dissenting opinions and academic discussion," said Cameron Kennedy, Vice-chair of the CSUN Secular Student Alliance.
The Secular Student Alliance is a network of over 300 groups at high schools and college campuses. The Secular Student Alliance is an organization that empowers secular students to proudly express their identity, build welcoming communities, and promote secular values.
