By far one of the best professors at Suny Old Westbury. I took him for African American Novel. Of course we were required to read novels, but they were very interesting informing. He is also a good grader, not too much work, and a few papers. I would def take him again.
I work difficult for my grades, but I never get anything higher than a B in his courses. He doesn't hand back grades, and when he does they have no comments. How am I supposed to better myself as a writer without feedback? I also think he favors African American students, he just tries not to show it. Don't take ever.
He is fantastic!! Powers is passionate about literature, has opinions but doesn't force them on students. If you want your money's worth take him, for real, I wasn't even an English major but I changed after his class.
By far the great prof. I've had at Old Westbury. Very accommodating, makes class fascinating as well. If you have an interest in learning, Powers is the way to go!
i dont know what some of these ppl are talking about. took it to fulfill a requirement then i dropped before any grades, but he was super friendly & really accommodating, there was reading, but it was a lit class. to be honest when he asks opinions on interpretations of black lit, pointing out the obvious gets awkward for the only white kid explaing is difficult
had him for black writers and it was the worst and he was the worst...not chill
This is by far the great prof. I have ever had, I really feel like I actually learned something from him, he forced me to work difficult to get the grades I wanted. He let?s you know from the start though that he doest not hand out A?s and I was skeptical at first about his teaching style but I think he graded very impartially and wish I needed to take hi
Had him for African American lit and he really inspired me and taught me to be critical about the world we live. Great prof. !' |
