Old Westbury’s Step team, Step Tunes Inc, has experienced its fair share of obstacles over the last year. Suspension, budget cuts, and transportation issues are some of the setbacks that the student club and competing team has managed to overcome. With all of the issues surrounding Step Tunes, the twenty- two member team has still managed to succeed.
Quinnetta Younge, one of the two captains of Step Tunes, feels that, “although this has been an extremely tough year for Step Tunes, we haven’t let it get us down, we took it in stride and came out number one.”
Step Tunes was recently awarded first and second place trophies for participating in Stony Brook University’s 3rd annual step competition. “The long practices we’ve had in preparation for the Stony Brook competition seems to have added to the strong sense of sisterhood found within the team,” said Alexis Lopez, a junior who has been on the team for two years.
Aside from performing at competitions and at on campus programs, Step Tunes has hosted its own programs and is looking to expand in the near future. Younge, excitedly described Step Tunes’ future plans: “Step Tunes has been competing for years and now we are hoping to host our own competition so be on the lookout for it during the Spring 2011 semester.”
