Nearly 300 students walked down a 30 foot red carpet on Thursday February 3rd to attend Casino Night.
The Cyber Lounge in the Student Union room 202 was turned into a casino, with real roulette, blackjack, Texas hold em’ and craps tables. Vice President of Programming Activities, MaryAnn Ulasi said, “The programming committee has been working on this event since November.”
The lounge was decorated with balloons shaped like spades, diamonds, hearts and clovers. There were ten foot tall cardboard replicas of playing cards and poker chips.
Food and refreshments served that evening included: dry peach and mango margaritas, chocolate covered-strawberries, dumplings, and platters of cheese.
The students were given a voucher worth a thousand dollars of playing money. The more games that a student played resulted in the more raffle tickets they received by the end of the night. Each raffle ticket gave the student a chance to win one of the giveaways: a Sanyo Plasma 42″ high-definition television, a Samsung Blue-Ray disc player, a PlayStation 3, an iPad, an iPod Touch, a Nintendo Wii, an Acer Netbook and a Shift LookBook.
Toward the end of the night, MaryAnn Ulasi drew the raffle tickets out of a gold-colored raffle drum. She began calling out, “1-9-3-5-7”
The first winner was called. Ashley Greene won a 100 dollar American Express gift card. She had thirteen raffle tickets from the night. She said, “The craps game was the best.”
Student Ayana Gotay won the Sanyo Plasma 42″ high-definition television. She said that she didn’t play any casino games. In return for her voucher, a friend gave her one of their tickets. That one ticket won her the television.
Antoinette Murray, SGA Sociology Senator, won a Lookbook. She said her favorite part of the night was having a successful event; and her favorite casino game was blackjack.
Former SGA President, Alejandro Hernandez-Torres said, “This was a very ingenious event. Everyone is looking fabulous. Everyone is looking fancy. This is definitely what the campus needed.”
Tony, the evening’s Casino Pit Boss said, “Everyone is having a good time. Everyone is staying out of trouble. The tables are full. They could have used more tables.”
The almost 300 students who attended the event seemed to have enjoyed playing casino games and seeing each other dressed up.
