Posters advertising the Casino Nigh event, held on February 3rd, were taped to walls all around campus. Written in script on the bottom of the poster stated that the dress code was “Strictly Formal Attire”.
Almost 300 students attended the event, but many students were denied admission into the event because they didn’t match the dress code. An event greeter stated, “We have a no jeans and sneakers policy.”
Freshman student, Javon Cummings said “I’m a commuter and I can’t go back home to change my clothes.”
Junior student, Vanessa James said that the dress code is an inconvenience that limits the number of people that can attend the event. She explained that some students don’t have money for the required dress code. She stated, “It’s icy weather; and they want us to wear heels.”
As you can see, students were upset because they were denied admission to Casino Night. If they were wearing sneakers or jeans, they were not admitted.
