Letter from the OWTV Club

Welcome back SUNY Old Westbury students! The OWTV Club is brand spanking new this semester! Emmy Award winning producer and former professor at N.Y.I.T. Gary Licker, is the head of the OWTV Club. Licker is a new professor at SUNY Old Westbury who teaches TV. Studio Production. The OWTV Club meets every Monday and Wednesday during the common hour in the TV Studio in room G127 in the Campus Center. With the OWTV Club’s H.D cameras, boom microphones, lavaliers, high-tech zoom microphones, H.D flip cameras, professional tri-pods, lights, TV studio set up, and edit lab; the OWTV Club gives students a real opportunity to know what it’s like to work hands on in the industry.  The Catalyst has media production equipment such as: computer design programs, Macintosh computers, and an audio room. The Catalyst and the OWTV Club are working together this semester as a mass media team. Along with the news articles published online from The Catalyst, many videos will be produced by the OWTV Club to coincide with articles.

Licker shared his thoughts about the OWTV Club. “I am very excited to be a part of OWTV. The success of this newly formed club will depend on the creativity and initiative of its members.”

Sherry Baker, is the TV Station Manager and Instructional Media Technologist. Baker always leaves the door open for her students to be creative and make up their own TV shows. “The OWTV Club is working with our OWTV Station to provide news packages and TV shows to the campus community. We are happy with our continued growth,” Baker commented.

In the Spring 2011 school semester, current student Melissa Marinovich, successfully ran her own reality TV show Last Laugh. Last Laugh was a stand up comic show. The comedians were SUNY students who competed against each other. The show was such a great success that the winners alumni, Carl Samuels, and current student, Patrick O’Brien, both won a spot to perform with the comedians from “Long Island Comedy Festival.”

“Last year, Last Laugh was a great success. We are very excited for this year. We anticipate it to be bigger and better!” Marinovich said during an interview.

This just shows students what they can do, who they can be, and have fun while doing it. The OWTV Club can be viewed outside of campus on Channel 3. OWTV also has access to Ustream an internet broadcast site. (http://www.ustream.tv/user/OWTV ). So if there is an event going on, viewers at home can see what is going on live!
