How did the Media Industry become my calling? Well, the answer lies in my passion for technology and media. Technology, which has always been a major role in my life as an accommodation for a student with Cerebral Palsy, and the growing fascination I have always had with creativity whether it was drawing or making a video for a class assignment I have always found learning how to use new software or any part of the audio and video production process to be play, not work. Even though I don’t have an aptitude for math, my interest in the technical aspects of the computer, I have five years of experience in basic computer troubleshooting and applications of technology which has enabled me to help my family and close friends with technology and computer applications along with eleven years of experience in how students can take their learning of the media industry to whole new level just by making connections from the friends and family they know already. For example, if you’re into broadcasting and new media, Rob Cesternino who I became in contact with through Eileen Axelsen, a teacher’s aide I met in seventh grade middle school. An avid fan of “survivor” on CBS it turned out that Rob Cesternino is her daughter’s best friends cousin. Since then, I have been able to keep in contact with him through Facebook and with his website, http://www.Robhasawebsite.com. The use of social media and exposure to the types of technology used in the media industry is essential because it has enabled me to explore the various techniques used to become successful in the media industry. For me, I am always open to opportunities and never want to restrict myself of any opportunity. As a Media and Communication major along with a Media Design minor student at SUNY College at Old Westbury I have been given the opportunity to delve into some of the concepts related to computer science such as basic HTML. Therefore, this has enabled me to understand these concepts even though I don’t have an aptitude for math.
