Students from Old Westbury Pioneer in a New and Exciting Internship
On Saturday, February 19 2011, three Old Westbury students were exposed to the comic book world through marketing and branding. Under the wing of alumni Etan Wishnevski; students Katie Long, Chantrese Williams, and Samantha Williams ventured into New York City to The Hotel Pennsylvania. They worked to expose Hound Comics to the thousands of people attending Mike Carbo's New York Comic Book Marketplace. This is where the students pioneered the Hound Comics' internship program. "Internships can be boring, and the interns themselves don't always get that valuable hands-on experience", Etan the Hound Comics Project Coordinator stated, "We teach our interns lifetime skills that they will be able to take with them throughout their lives, all while in a fun, professional family setting".
The interns took on a number of responsibilities, from taking pictures and video, to garnering the attention of guests to come by the Hound Comics' booth. Chantrese Williams didn't know what to expect going into the event, "I was so surprised when we got there. It was like stepping into another world. It was a place I could appreciate because everyone there had such a strong passion for what they loved".
The students that interned proved to be strong assets to the company. They provided photos, videos, and the invaluable ear-on-the-street for Hound Comics. They all received much praise from CEO William "Brimstone" Kucmierowski. "They must be putting something in the water over at Old Westbury," he said, "because the students who interned with us were top notch and exceeded all my expectations". All three students are involved in different mediums of media: Katie, in Old Westbury Television (OWTV), and Samantha and Chantrese, in The Catalyst and Old Westbury's Web Radio (OWWR).
Hound Comics is a privately owned publishing company dedicated to providing entertainment, including several projects ranging from comic books to film. Owned and operated by what is known as the "Borderhounds Creative Team," the company has spent years of hard work and determination, in order to create an innovative and unique universe for readers and viewers to enjoy. The internship program is aimed at teaching qualified interns valuable skills, such as marketing and branding, advertising know-how, and several different media components.
The students at Old Westbury have earned a place in the heart of Hound Comics. "I look forward to working with many of these students on a regular basis," CEO Brimstone said, "and helping them achieve their lifelong goals."
