Hectic Directions
The early mornings will begin with a large Styrofoam cup filled with fresh brewed hazelnut coffee to jumpstart the entire body. Then the mind triggers motivation and the passion to achieve the best results for the day. It is non-stop so the night ends with a Red Bull and a pack of Reese's peanut butter cups. The clocks are swallowed since time doesn't matter or exist, as long as everything gets completed.
It is hard to stay sane if your responsibilities overpower your life but it all goes back to the day where you say, "I choose to do this." There are many students who overexert themselves while in college picking up many tasks, clubs, organizations, internships, and jobs. On top of all the undertakings there is also your personal life that may include family, friends, or a relationship. It is hard if you feel like you're constantly running in directions to complete different duties. Your brain will be at war with your feet that keep prodding you to take more steps. There may be times when your eyes will periodically close and your body feels drained of liveliness. It is difficult to go beyond your own capabilities, yet these audacious individuals surround us every day.
The population at SUNY Old Westbury is very small and on a daily basis you view familiar faces. It is challenging to go to a small university that is not renowned, so it is important that students make themselves known. Individuals tend to make themselves "big fishes" in a "little pond" and you are able to recognize them. The "big fishes" have eyes that glow of confidence and fulfill their positions without showing their weariness. You can tell them to quit something, but it doesn't process through their head because each duty breathes their motives. The "big fishes" become the admirable leaders on campus that other students look up to and inspire them to join similar clubs or organizations that they are a part of.
In reality all that is welcoming are a soft pillow and a blanket to enclose the hardworking students, yet it may take a list of a hundred things to do in a day of a college student to prepare them for the competitive world. They can look back at what was once juggled and in the "real world" can posses the mentality that they can achieve anything, the possibilities are endless and there is nothing that cannot be mastered. The alarm will go off the next morning as the sun is slowly rising, an everlasting long beeping sound that rings in the ears, starting the continuous cycle again.
