I am native Japanese speaker and have experience as a teacher of world language (Japanese) in a public High School in Fairfield County. I think Japanese is much easier to learn without using school text book. As a result of my method two of my American students passed N1 (top level of Japanese proficiency test) in 4 years using Manga (reading comprehensive) and YouTube and DVDs (listening)in addition to two basic text books.
